Sher Tremonte Joins 841 Law Firms in Amicus Brief Defending Rule of Law
On April 3, 2026, Sher Tremonte LLP joined 841 law firms as amici curiae before the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in support of Perkins Coie LLP, Jenner & Block LLP, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, and Susman Godfrey LLP.
The brief — filed in the consolidated appeals of executive orders issued against these four firms beginning in March 2025 — argues that the orders constitute an unprecedented and unconstitutional threat to the independence of the legal profession. The orders subject the targeted firms to severe penalties, including the potential loss of government contracts, denial of access to federal buildings, and revocation of attorneys’ security clearances, in retaliation for legal representations the firms have undertaken or may undertake.
As the brief states: “An attack on the legal profession is tantamount to an attack on the rule of law and, by extension, democracy itself.”
Oral argument is scheduled for May 14, 2026. Read the brief here.
