Max represents clients in a wide range of complex commercial matters and government enforcement actions, both civil and criminal. Whether high-stakes litigation or discrete advisory matters, clients appreciate his no-nonsense demeanor, attention to detail and careful preparation, and relentless pursuit of the best possible client outcomes.
Prior to joining Sher Tremonte in 2022, Max was a senior litigation associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. A generalist, his practice was and remains diverse. He represented corporate clients in antitrust investigations and litigation, including bet-the-company DOJ and FTC enforcement actions against American Express and Qualcomm, and complex consumer class actions. Beyond antitrust, Max defended corporations, board members, and officers in securities and mergers and acquisitions litigation in state and federal courts, securing early dismissals and favorable settlements for clients such as Jeffrey Katzenberg, Blount Incorporated, and Altra Industrial Motion Corporation. He also has significant experience in Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other internal investigations, including high-profile and highly sensitive “#MeToo”-era sexual misconduct investigations.
A native Brooklynite, Max’s attraction to investigations and the law developed when, for nearly four years prior to law school, he conducted investigations of NYPD misconduct at the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board. There, Max handled large dockets consisting of a wide variety of matters, from improper stop-and-frisks and vehicle searches to significant use-of-force complaints alleging serious physical injuries, including the use of deadly force. In recognition of his investigative abilities, Max was selected to participate in the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau’s multi-week training program along with NYPD officers.
